Safety first and foremost

Passenger safety

When it comes to protecting you and your passengers, trust Mazda.

All Seven seat belts all have 3 points, meaning increased safety levels. Plus those in the front row have pre-tensioners and load limiters for further protection. And don't worry about others not buckling up, a seatbelt reminder will let you know if the front seatbelts aren't done up properly.

Extra child protection comes with ISOFIX seat anchors for 2nd row outer seats. Child seats are quick and easy to install and won't tip forward in the event of a collision thanks to the their tether function. Plus everyone benefits from our integrated airbag system. We've 6 airbags; including front and side airbags for the driver and first row passenger. And, for the first time in this class, all-three-seat rows are covered by curtain airbags, where we've nearly doubled the surface area that protects you.

Here at Mazda, it's safety first all the way.

Safety cell

Inner strength, that's the key to minimising the impact of any collision front, side or rear. Mazda's triple-H structure disperses impact, absorbing force thanks to the reinforced inner cell. High tensile steel, cross car beams and a trapezoid structure are just a sample of the ways in which the structure increases the cabin's resistance to impact forces offering you all-round protection.

Security

Peace of mind comes as standard, and so does a Mazda immobilizer system. When starting the car, the ignition key code must match that of your key. Otherwise the starter, fuel and ignition systems shut down. Meaning the engine will not start. A Thatcham (Category 1) alarm is available as standard on all Mazda5's and when turned on, a distinctive siren will deter thieves!

Driver assistance

The Mazda5 has a wide range of possible uses. The many seating and luggage options suggest lots of potential configurations. One thing, however, must always remain consistent. Regardless of how many are in the car, what they've brought along and the weather outside: your driver control must be reliable and predictable.

You can depend on your Mazda5. The braking benefits from a four-wheel Antilock Braking System (4W-ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) which is standard on all Mazda5 vehicles. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Traction Control systems are also available as standard on Sport models. As a driver, your safety is also protected by a crashable brake pedal that reduces the risk of pedal inflicted leg injuries in the event of a frontal impact. You see, we've put our sports-inspired driving control technologies to great use in your car.

NCAP Five-star safety

When it comes to passenger safety, you can trust the Mazda5 to deliver a five-star performance. In fact, the latest European New Car Assessment Programme NCAP results awarded the Mazda5 five stars for adult occupation protection – the highest rating a car can receive.

In a series of independent tests for driver and passenger and pedestrian protection our stellar performance illustrated how, with the new Mazda5, safety always comes first. The moment you step inside a Mazda5, you know that you’re in safe hands. And should you ever be involved in an accident, you can rest assured that you – and your family – will always benefit from our top-rated safety features.
