Enjoy the ride

Left. Right. Left. Right. No worries...!

Open-top driving is all about feeling in touch with your surroundings and enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. By controlling the effect of the wind you can experience all this and more, while still feeling like you're inside a cool, comfortable cabin environment.

Open top comfort

Less turbulence, more comfort

At the wheel of your Mazda MX-5, you want to experience that 'wind in the hair' feeling at its best. So any turbulence or extreme heat or cold is definitely a nuisance.

That's why our designers worked so hard to refine our cabin's wind-control performance. A relatively high deck helps cut out the wind. So too does our newly designed 'mesh' aero board, which minimises the annoyance of air flowing from the back of the car.

Meanwhile our compact, well-louvred climate-control unit gives you ambient temperatures between 10*C and 30*C - with the option of automatic control available. This increases the amount of top-down driving time you have, whatever the weather. So overall you've less disturbance and increased comfort.

Audio

A moving experience

Top-up or top-down, you won't only always look great - you'll sound great too. Your audio system is tastefully integrated into the centre stack. And the switches and controls are, like all the others, pleasing to touch.

All systems contain an AM/FM radio and a CD player. Plus there's also the choice of a six-disc CD changer when you select our state-of-the-art BOSE system (see below). Strategically placed speakers and an automatic sound leveliser compensate for differing wind noise levels. So you've increased sound quality, with your top-up or down.

A stunning BOSE premium sound system is available for 2.0i sport models. Seven quality speakers, a high-power digital amplifier and AudioPilot noise compensation technology: it doesn't get much better than this. Especially for you drivers, since the sound-field is tuned towards your side - after all, this is a car designed first and foremost with driving in mind.

Picture it: you and your favourite car, moving in perfect concert, with your favourite music playing.
